A, An 或 The？如何在真实对话中使用英语冠词

英语冠词是小词，但效果显著。A、an 和 the 告诉听者你指的是“许多中的一个”还是“特定的那个”。即使句子的其他部分没有问题，母语者也会立刻注意到缺少的 the。

你不需要每一本教科书上的例外规则。你需要一个可以在下一个句子中使用的说话规则。

简短规则

• a / an = 一组中的一个，还不唯一。首次提到。

• the = 这一个，我们都能识别的那个。

• no article = 一般复数或不可数意义。

• I saw a dog. The dog was sleeping on the sofa.

• Water is expensive here. The water in this bottle is cold.

A vs an (a 与 an 的用法)

在元音音前使用 an，而不仅仅在元音字母前。

• an email, an hour, an MBA
• a university, a European office, a one-way ticket

说出来。University 以 /j/ 开头，因此用 a。Hour 以元音音素开头，因此用 an。

何时使用 the

当双方都能识别某个事物时，使用 the。

• Close the door.
• I left my keys in the kitchen.
• The sun is still up.

• I watched a film. The film was too long.

何时不使用 the

笼统意义（无冠词）

• Cats hate water.
• I like jazz. I study history.
• She works in finance. He is in hospital.

名字和大多数城市/国家名称

• I live in Warsaw. I work at Google.
• 实际上你会说的例外情况： the Netherlands, the United States, the UK, the Czech Republic.

以一般方式提到的餐点、日子和许多机构

• We had lunch. See you on Monday.
• She went to school / university / work.

如果你添加一个具体的说明，the 通常又会出现：the lunch we skipped，the Monday after the launch。

可数名词与不可数名词（口语陷阱）

你可以说 a meeting（一次会议），an idea（一个想法），a task（一个任务）。但不能说 a software 或 an information。

• I need information. I found the information in the brief.
• We bought software. The software is already installed.
• Can I have advice? The advice you gave me helped.

对于不可数名词，第一次提到时通常不加冠词或使用 some。第二次提到时 — 当指的是具体的那个东西 — 则使用 the。
